A Very Famous Tale...

The real story of this ring is the Claddagh symbol, which is a renowned Irish symbol meaning “love, friendship, and loyalty.” There are many tall-tales surrounding the origin of the symbol and the ring. One of the most popular ones is said to have occurred nearly 400 years ago.

Richard Joyce, a master goldsmith, was living in the popular fishing town of Claddagh at the time when his fishing boat was captured by pirates. He was supposed to have been married that same week. Instead, he was sold to a Turkish goldsmith.

During his capture, he created a ring made of gold for his love. When he was finally free, he returned home to Claddagh. There he found that she had never given up on him. He gave her the ring, and the two were married.

The tradition of the Claddagh ring continued on. When someone wears the ring on their right hand with the crown pointed towards them, their heart has yet to be taken. When it is worn on the right hand, and the crown is pointed away from their body, it means they are in a commitment.

Finally, when someone wears the ring on their left hand with the crown pointed away from their body, it means they have found someone that they share all of the qualities of the ring with, and plan to spend forever together.
