A Name through the Ages - Kaitlyn...

Kaitlyn also spelled Caitlin (sounds more like Kathleen in Irish pronunciation) is the Irish version of a name that went through many other cultures before making its way to Ireland. Since kathos is Greek in meaning the name is often believed to mean “pure”; however, the Irish name Caitlin did not originate from this word. It actually is a Gaelic name that came from the Old French name Cateline, which is derived from Katherine and from the Ancient Greek name Aikaterine.

Kathleen Ni Houlihan was an Irish symbol used in art to bring about a sense of Irish nationalism. The character often known as Sean-Bhean Bhocht is normally personified as a poor old woman. The story originates from an Irish song used in the Irish Rebellion of 1798. The song was supposed to display the native Gaelic poetry.

The character would later be revitalized at the turn of the 20th century. She would become a symbol that required the help of young Irish men to battle the colonial rule that Ireland was experiencing. She would often be used in different literary aspects between these times. The best known version of the original song is below.

“Oh the French are on the sea," says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"The French are on the sea," says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"Oh The French are in the Bay, they'll be here without delay,
And the Orange will decay," says the Sean Bhean Bhocht.

"And their camp it will be where?" says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"Their camp it will be where?" says the Sean Bhean Bhocht.
"On the Curragh of Kildare and the boys will all be there
With their pikes in good repair." says the Sean Bhean Bhocht .

"And what will the yeomen do?" says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"What will the yeomen do?" says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"What will the yeomen do but throw off the red and blue,
And swear that they'll be true to the Sean Bhean Bhocht.

"Then what colour will be seen?" says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"What colour will be seen?" says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"What colour should be seen where our fathers' homes have been
But our own immortal green? " says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,

"And will Ireland then be free? " says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"Will Ireland then be free? " says the Sean Bhean Bhocht,
"Yes old Ireland will be free from the centre to the sea,
And hurrah! for liberty," says the Sean Bhean Bhocht.

Very shortly are placing my order I received a call from customer service explaining the process to me in great detail. They wanted to make sure I had an accurate reading of my ring size. The attention to customer service was outstanding. The turn around time was much quicker than I expected and when I opened the box the end result was better than I expect. I thought of the ring as a piece of artwork. The detail and craftsmanship is second to none. Then much to my surprise I received follow up communication to make sure everything was satisfactory. I was truly amazed with the concern for the satisfaction of the customer. Thank you Celtic Rings, Ltd and particularly Stephen and Vincent. The ring size I gave them is a bit off and we are currently working on a solution but again the piece of art I have on my finger is amazing...
