A Symbol Across Ages...

One common story of the use of the trinity symbol was to represent the three lunar cycles or three Goddesses: the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. They consistently show the cycle of life through birth, death, and rebirth.

Many comparisons have been made with the goddesses and Christianity’s Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Many historians pointed out that there was actually a figure in many different cultures and societies who played this exact role.

The Roman Goddess Diana, for example, was a triple deity ruling over the sky, the earth, and the underworld. There are many other examples of figures that played three roles or ruled over three dominions of life. The Greek Goddess Hera actually was known in one aspect as singularly the Maiden, Mother, and Crone.

It has been said because the Three Goddesses encompass such an important part of life, whether it was the moon or the cycles of life, they or she was the Great Goddess.

The Maiden was said to represent inception, birth, youthfulness, enthusiasm, and expansion. The Mother represents fertility, sex, stability, fulfillment, and life. Finally, the Crone represents wisdom, endings, and death. In their connection with the trinity symbol, the cycles repeat just like those of the moon.
